SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT |

Dear Students,
Greetings from Costa Rica!
| In consideration of the actuality of the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and the fact that at CPI Spanish our students’ safety is a top priority, we want to extend to you the following information, especially realizing that you may have questions about travelling for your Spanish immersion program: |

Payment: For students enrolled to study for more than 1 week, they will be able to make payment on a weekly basis; in other words, the full-payment on the first day of classes requirement during this time frame is being waived. |

Date: If needed, students can reschedule their programs at no charge. |
 |
In terms of preparation, Costa Rica was ready for the arrival of COVID-19 and Costa Rica has a reputation for diligently preventing the spread of viruses in the past. There are Ministry of Health officials at the airports and immigration agents are asking if people have been to the highly affected countries within the past 3 weeks; suspected cases & confirmed cases are all in isolation. |

| Parallel, the government – both the Ministry of Health & the Institute of Tourism - has a strong educational campaign which includes following these basic preventative steps (please note that they are NOT promoting use of masks): |

When coughing or sneezing, block your mouth with your upper arm or a tissue and NOT your hand. |
|
Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 30 seconds. |
|
Avoid touching hands, eyes and mouth. |
|
If sick, do not go to work or to school until the symptoms subside. |
|
|
We at CPI are diligently watching the local news and following the Costa Rican Ministry of Health website (an additional source is: World Health Organization website) obtaining information directly from reputable governmental sources. As aforementioned, the government is heavily promoting following proper practices as the best ways to prevent the spread of this and other viruses (the info sheet below is being propagated and we have printed versions at each CPI).
At present we believe the Costa Rican government will not close down their borders to travel; the necessary resources to prevent spread will be applied, as done effectively in the past with other viruses, and the expectation is that cases will be contained.

RECOMENDATIONS WHILE TRAVELING

Bring your hand sanitizer: small bottle for carry on & large bottle in checked bag to refill smaller bottle once in country |
|
Travel outside rush hours |
|
Keep your hands away from your nose, eyes, and mouth |
|
